Salute 2018 Trip Report

Casemate had the pleasure of attending the 2018 edition of Salute, the wargaming fair, which took place at the Excel Arena in London. This year was, as always, a great event, with plenty of intriguing games being played along with some amazing costumes.

Across from our stall was a remarkable 1:1 scale model of a First World War British tank. It certainly attracted a lot of attention, and we thought they might appreciate a copy of our Scale Modelling WW1 Tanks book incase they ever wanted to attempt another.

With the anniversary of the Zeebrugge Raid of 1918 approaching (at the time) I set off to check out the Naval Wargames Society’s attempt to recreate the raid itself. It was a tense encounter and looked like it could go either way. As we had just published Zeebrugge, it was very interesting to see how the raid might have looked in real life, albeit on a slightly smaller scale.

It was good to see Helion & Company attending this year too. Their stall was a hive of activity with their brilliant Century of the Soldier and Reason to Revolution series proving especially popular. It was also good to see Tom Cooper there, the man behind Helion’s @War series of books. It has grown exponentially, releasing dozens of books a year, and has received rave reviews from many publications.

We’re already looking forward to next year!
