MMP Books
MMP was founded in 1996 by Roger Wallsgrove, to publish Mushroom Model Magazine. This quarterly modelling magazine was developed from Mushroom Monthly, a club newsletter which ran from 1985 to 1995, achieving a world-wide reputation for quality articles, fearless and honest reviews, and a great sense of humour. From 1997 the magazine was produced in collaboration with Robert Peczkowski and Artur Juszczak (Stratus), which meant a big leap in print quality and design. MMP expanded into book publication in 1999, and since then they have built up a list of books on aircraft and aviation history, military vehicles, and military history. Their books are now read around the world and have been received to critical acclaim. In 2006 the decision was made to stop producing the magazine to concentrate on book production; the books being a logical follow-on, and with the same philosophy. MMP’s emphasis is on accessible, well-researched and well-written books, showcasing top-quality photos and artwork, produced to a high standard.

These weapons saw extensive action on all battlefronts of the Second World War wherever the German armed forces saw service.
While the 2 cm Flak 38 was an excellent weapon when first developed, by the time it entered service even the German army knew that it was in need of a replacement weapon system. The Germans concentrated on 37mm weapons and above from then on, however the Flak 38 still gave valued service against low flying aircraft and ground targets and proved to be a valued weapon throughout the war, it even saw service with some other nations well into the 1970’s. This book contains 140+ photographs taken by the average German soldier of both the 2 cm Flak 38 and the Flakvierling 38 as well as their crews in many of the areas they operated within. This volume illustrates these weapons as the soldiers themselves viewed them in both their fighting environment and, in many cases, just as a tool they lived with and had to look after on a daily basis, not the highly polished and sanitized views of the official photographers. In late 1939, the Air Ministry were looking to replace the Blenheim as a medium bomber. Bristol Aircraft Company (BAC) initially came up with a bomber development of the Beaufighter, the Type 161. Due to specification changes and redesigns, the end result was the Type 163 Buckingham, a twin engined, twin tailed medium bomber.
At the time of the Buckinghams conception inquiries were made about a torpedo bomber version. A redesign of the Buckingham brought about the Type 164 Brigand. The torpedo requirement was eventually dropped and the aircraft re-configures as a bomber. With no suitable trainers to train the Buckingham and Brigand pilots BAC came up with the Buckmaster, which was basically a Buckingham with a new nose section containing dual controls.By the time the Buckingham and Brigand entered service their roles had been superseded with newer and better aircraft. Most Buckinghams went straight into storage to await their fate, but some were converted in high speed courier aircraft with four seats. But it was too little too late. The Mosquito could do a better job at almost half the cost. The Brigand with its long range was earmarked for the Far East and the battle against Japan, but the war ended before they could be sent over. It was the Malaya Emergency that saved the Brigand. Carrying out a role for which it was never designed, that of a dive bomber, two Squadrons carried out over 3,500 against the Communist Terrorist.Had it not been for the constant delays and construction changes the aircraft may have lived up to their expectations. As it was they were plagued by mechanical and hydraulic issues as well as structural defects. After a number of catastrophic airframe failures the Brigands were retired from operational service in early 1953.
